2010 Land Rover Freelander 2 Sport

It’s a long title, and a sexy ride – fans in the UK looking for a smaller, more fuel efficient (and cost efficient) Land Rover rejoice! The 2010 Freelander 2 Sport is headed your way. LR’s Freelander 2 Sport will be powered by a 2.2-liter TD4 diesel engine with 160 horse power/400 Nm of torque. There are no performance specs released as of yet, but an average Land Rover Sport will hit 0 – 60 in about 10.5 – 11 seconds, topping out at 112 mph. Not bad for riding on 19-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels. The Sport’s got a fuel consumption rating of 42.2mpg with the standard six-speed manual, keeping the eco-geeks happy.

Both interior and exterior styles are available in two-tone gray/black. Land Rover also offers a sport styling package which includes revised front and rear bumper fascias. We love the interior Sport logos on each head rest.

The Freelander 2 Sport goes on sale in January 2010 with a base price of £26,695.

The front bumper is redesigned to feature additional air intake, additional fog lights and to create greater visual impact. The original upper bodylines are retained, whilst the lower sections have been completely redesigned to strengthen the appearance.

The remodeled front wheel arches give accent with additional width. The front door panels extend the doors downwards to visually lower the profile of the Sport. The rear door panel and arches continue the side profile emphasizing the stance. The rear door panel section has an additional air vent. Rear quarter panel arches finalize the side profile connecting the front bumper and rear bumper. The rear bumper retains a removable towing mount cover and has been lowered to incorporate the exhaust outlets into the bumper section completing the overall design.

The face of the English SUV receives more character with the sporty yet elegant STARTECH front element with integrated LED daytime running lights. The new front element was designed to attach to the lower part of the production bumper.

The STARTECH attachment for the liftgate continues the contour of the rear bumper across its entire width. The result is an even more balanced rear appearance of the Freelander 2 compared with the production car.

The fully stainless-steel STARTECH sport exhaust system with chrome-plated tailpipes left and right adds yet another visual and acoustic highlight. Custom-tailored versions of the exhaust system are available for all Freelander 2 models.

Land Rover Releases Two-Door Vehicle Details

Yes friends, it’s the small Rover – Land Rover/Range Rover LRX is coming in all its two-door might. The LRX Coupe Concept was officially released today, and frankly we’re impressed. It will be interesting to see Land Rover tackle this 2-door world in this day & age. LRX stays in tune with the new-age design of most Range Rovers, no word yet on an interior or what’s under her hood. Check out the full press release below.

Small Range Rover confirmed for production

Gaydon, Warwickshire, 24 September 2009 – Land Rover has confirmed today a production version of its exciting LRX concept car will be built. The new car will debut next year and join the Range Rover line-up in 2011.

Designed and engineered at Land Rover’s state of the art Gaydon facility, the new Range Rover will be the smallest, lightest and most efficient vehicle the company has ever produced.

The new car will be built at the multi award-winning plant in Halewood, on Merseyside, subject to quality and productivity agreements and will be sold in over 100 countries around the world.

Phil Popham, managing director of Land Rover said: “The production of a small Range Rover model is excellent news for our employees, dealers and customers. It is a demonstration of our commitment to investing for the future, to continue to deliver relevant vehicles for our customers, with the outstanding breadth of capability for which we are world-renowned.”

“Feedback from our customer research also fully supports our belief that a production version of the LRX Concept would further raise the desirability of our brand and absolutely meet their expectations.” Phil added.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director said “The new vehicle will be a natural extension to the Range Rover line-up, complementing the existing models and helping to define a new segment. It will be true to the concept and have many recognizable Range Rover design cues including the signature clamshell bonnet, the floating roof and the solid ‘wheel-at-each-corner’ stance.” More details of the new small Range Rover will be released next year.

The Range Rover – now with enhanced rear seat luxury

Now, a series of further refinements are available as options across the range, with the focus on enhanced luxury for rear seat passengers.

Land Rover is introducing electronically-controlled reclining rear seats, which will be particularly valued by chauffeur-driven customers.
